Culture and leisure

In addition to a targeted social involvement, Düsseldorf International places great emphasis on supporting cultural projects and promoting sporting activities.

Düsseldorf International Cup
Since 2006 Düsseldorf International, as part of its work with the neighbouring areas, has been the organiser and sponsor of the Düsseldorf International Cup, an annual junior football tournament for teams from the surrounding communities.
Düsseldorf International initiated the tournament in order to promote, in a targeted manner, the youth work the participating teams were doing.

Ratingen New Year’s Run

Düsseldorf International has been supporting the traditional Ratingen New Year’s Run since 2003, with the aim of helping schools to stimulate boys’ and girls’ interest in running as a sport. For these young runners it is not the time which matters: the school which starts and finishes with the most runners wins the Airport Cup.
This provides the boys and girls who take part with a fantastic shared experience, promoting a strong sense of ‘We’ rather than ‘I’.

Support for equestrianism
When children horse ride, they are not just engaging in a beautiful sport, they are also learning to relate in a responsible and respectful way with another living being. Learning from one another in a team and showing consideration towards one another are absolutely central issues here, and these are of course important in other walks of life.

It is for this reason that Düsseldorf International has been involved for many years both financially and materially in various riding tournaments in the surrounding communities.

Promotion of junior tennis

Nowadays sporting involvement in a club is more important than ever. Learning and having to accept the rules and being able to deal with both victory and defeat are important experiences and qualities which are also of significance for a successful working life.
Therefore, as part of its work with the local neighbourhood, the airport also supports the promotion of junior tennis.

Partner of Ratingen junior ice hockey

A strong partnership has existed between Düsseldorf Airport and the Ratingen Ice Aliens since 2005, both partners having the aim of promoting ice hockey by means of a targeted junior programme.
In this way the airport is supporting the Ice Aliens’ junior teams, for example by the acquisition of items of equipment or jerseys.

Promoting culture

In addition to sporting and social projects, as part of its work with the local neighbourhood Düsseldorf Airport also supports cultural events, with the main aim of giving young people chances to plan their leisure sensibly.
For example, in 2007 the airport sponsored the Rock Festival at the Turm in Meerbusch-Büderich, giving junior bands from the area their own platform on which to demonstrate their abilities in public.
